Brian Viloria Stops Omar Nino; Mayol Dominates Miranda

Yñares Sports Arena, Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines - Third time is the charm. WBO flyweight champion Brian Viloria (31-3, 18KOs) stopped Omar Nino (31-5-2, 13KOs) in the ninth round to get revenge.

Nino decisioned Viloria in August of 2006, and then fought him to a twelve round majority drawn three months later, but the fight was later changed to a no-contest when Nino failed a post-fight drug test.

Viloria dominated at the start. He was punishing Nino by the fourth round and a cut opened up above the left eye of Nino in the fifth. In the later rounds, just when Nino appeared to build a slow rally, Viloria closed the show in the ninth round. Viloria landed a hard right hand and then a left uppercut, which promoted Nino's corner to enter the ring and stop the fight. Nino was staggered by the punches but he didn't seem to be in that much trouble. He disagreed with his corner's decision to stop it.

In a battle of former champions, flyweight Rodel Mayol (31-5-2, 22KOs) dropped Julio Cesar "Pingo" Miranda (37-7-1, 29KOs) three times to win a dominating ten round unanimous decision. The scores were 100-87, 97-91, 99-88.

Mayol came out fast and a hard left hand sent Miranda down in the first round. A series of punches dropped Miranda again in the second round. Miranda continued to engage Mayol in toe to toe action and got dropped for a third time in the fifth round. Mayol controlled the remainder of the fight, but Miranda was game and hung in until the end. After the match, Mayol received a minor bonus for his impressive performance.
