BoxingScene.com recently published an article that said a fight between former champions Danny Garcia (33-1) and Brandon Rios (34-3-1) is nearly finalized for February 17th. The fight will likely end up at either the MGM Grand Garden Arena or Mandalay Bay Events Center In Las Vegas, Nevada.
Both men have have been in action packed fights over the years and Rios is excited to finally face Garcia.
“It is going to be a great fight. I know he’s ready. I will be ready. It is going to be a good fight. I’ve wanted this fight for a long time but it didn’t work it because of the promotions. Now I am with the right people and they set it up for me,” said Rios.
The Southern California resident returned to the ring in June after a year and a half layoff and stopped Arron Herrera. In his previous fight he was stopped for the first time in his career by Tim Bradley.
He said that the break from the ring was the best thing that could happen to him and he feels rejuvenated.
“I needed it so bad. Just so many wars after wars. Back to back. Just constantly dieting and sh*t. I needed to take a step back. Take a breather and just remember the drive that helped me to get the drive back to become a champion again. I had to take a step back and see if I really wanted to do this still and it helped a lot,” Rios told BoxingScene.com.
Rios will be the underdog in the fight but is very confident that he will come out his hand raised. The feels that the key to winning the fight is avoiding Garcia’s power shots.
“I have the coaches to come up with the game plan - my job is just to go in there and execute the game plan and we will go from there. He is a tough fighter. He can crack with both hands so we gotta just go in there and watch for those hooks. Anything is possible when you set your mind to it,” Said Rios.
