German trainer Karsten Roewer, who works with WBA 'regular' light heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer, says his fighter is absolutely on the same level as the WBA's super champion, Sergey Kovalev of Russia.

He sees a fight between Braehmer and Kovalev as matching the two best boxers in the light heavyweight division.

Braehmer (48-2, 35KOs) was in action on Saturday night in Germany, when he defeated Eduard Gutknecht for a second time by a wide points decision over twelve rounds. Kovalev (29-0-1, 26KOs) was in the ring back in January, when he stopped Jean Pascal in a rematch.

The World Boxing Association has recently begun to downsize their roster of world champions. They are eliminating the current situation where some divisions have up to three world champions.

Fans are wondering when the sanctioning body will order Kovalev and Braehmer to face each other in order to establish a single WBA champion at 175.

"It would be a very interesting fight. In my opinion, at the moment Kovalev and Braehmer are the strongest representatives of the light heavyweight division. This fight will not be easy to organize, but it would be a very interesting event," Roewer said to DG News.

"Kovalev is a very powerful boxer. He has a good basic training. In Russia he obtained excellent boxing skills and he was a good amateur. However, Juergen is dangerous for Kovalev. During his attacks Kovalev is often at risk. And Jüergen is very good on the counterattacks. Braehmer will use his experience in such moments."

"It is difficult to predict how a fight with them would play out. When two opponents who are on the same level enter the ring, the fight does not always turn out beautiful. Of course, Braehmer and Kovalev are technical boxers and their fight would show a high standard. Their fight will undoubtedly cause a wide impact."
