WBO/WBC junior welterweight champion Tim Bradley, and WBA champion Amir Khan, have waged a verbal battle on BoxingScene over the past few days. In a video interview I conducted with Bradley moments after his friend Nonito Donaire's victory over Fernando Montiel last Saturday in Las Vegas, the California native told BoxingScene - "Tell Amir Khan to stop running! Stop Running Amir Khan!"
On Thursday, BoxingScene's Mark Vester ran a story in which Khan responded that he wasn't running from Bradley, and the only thing that concerned him was Bradley using his head in a proposed July fight.
BoxingScene reached out to Bradley to get his reaction to the comments made by Khan. He laughed off the comments and found Khan's concern about headbutts particularly interesting.
"It sounds like Khan is already looking for excuses for why he is going to lose the fight. He's talking about headbutts. All it sounds like is an excuse," Bradley told BoxingScene.com.
Bradley and Khan's promoters, Gary Shaw and Golden Boy Promotions, have reached an agreement in principle for the two champions to unify their belts on July 23rd at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The deal still has to be signed off on by both fighters and Khan must get past Paul McCloskey on April 16th.
Bradley said he will be ready to go on July 23rd and he expects Khan to suffer the same fate as Devon Alexander and other past opponents.
"These guys just don't learn, man. He will learn like Devon and all these other guys learned. Just wait till you see the ass whooping I am going to give him on July 23rd!"
As far as comments about the size of his head, Bradley took those comments in stride.
"Khan can call me the Big Head Belt Collector (laughing). On July 23rd I will add a third belt to my collection!"
