BoxingScene Ratings Update: M. Vazquez, Daniel Geale

By Cliff Rold

It was a light week in boxing in terms of top ten talents.  That all changes this weekend.  Several rated fighers are in action.

Last week, it was the most significant title match of the week that marked a change here.

Middleweight: Daniel Geale returns with a win but stays a baby step behind Felix Sturm.  Yes, he beat Sturm head to head, but Sturm rebounded to beat the man who beat Geale.  Flip a coin…and hope for a rematch.

Lightweight: Miguel Vazquez might not be fun viewing, but he is the top rated Lightweight until proven otherwise.  Denis Shafikov wasn’t up to the task and exits the top ten.  Daniel Estrada enters the top ten.

Flyweight: Former titlist Luis Concepcion keeps winning but not enough, yet, to move up in the ranks.  Will he get back in the title picture?  The big banger would make a fun foe for many.  He’s rated #2 by the WBC, putting him in line for the winner of a possible Akira Yaegashi-Roman Gonzalez.  He’s a better match for the former than latter.  More intriguing is his closing in on a possible mandatory shot at IBF titlist Moruti Mthalane.  Mthalane is the forgotten man sometime in the thick forest at Flyweight, but he’s also a solid talent.  Concepcion-Mthalane would be a great fight for both men if it came to pass.

The full results of note and the total impact on the ratings are a click away.
but if Geale has a rematch he's ducking Golovkin! (ggg fan logic)
Cept Sam Soliman has already inked a Sturm rematch - so Geale will kinda have to wait his turn. I ain't saying that Geale's avoiding GGG since…

The fact that Miguel Vasquez is the number one rated lightweight Mexican in the world and no one cares about him shows you how boring this guy is. He's a nice guy and all but good lord. He needs to…
