Edgar Berlanga talks about his inspiration from previous great Puerto Rican boxers and how he cannot decide who would win a fight between Miguel Cotto and Felix Trinidad.
For years, there were two things easily taken for granted about the short, tragic life of a junior lightweight champion who never was. The first was that Tyrone Everett was the victim of one of the worst decisions of the 1970s. The second was that Everett was murdered by his girlfriend when she caught him with another man.

There are a few things that people of all persuasions can agree on. Even boxing fans. Among them, there’s a universal acknowledgement that Carl Weathers was the man. Particularly these days, in the wake of his death at age 76. His personification of Apollo Creed helped make the early movies in the Rocky series explode off the screen, and it’s practically impossible after all these years to imagine someone else – even a real-life champion like Ken Norton, who was initially cast for it – in that role.

By Cliff Rold - It can be exciting to see a fighter collect all the belts in a single class. How they lose those belts is another matter. Sometimes, they lose them in pieces. Josh Taylor and Jermell Charlo are recent examples. Both assembled all the hardware at junior welterweight and junior middleweight respectively. Taylor defended all his straps once before inactivity and injury saw his waist whittle down from four belts to one. Eventually he lost the lineal throne, and his lone remaining belt, to Teofimo Lopez.

It’s become the currency of pound-for-pound status. Oh sure, it’s good to be a great fighter. But unless you’ve supplemented the status by capturing title belts across multiple weight classes, you’re doomed to a seat at the P4P kids' table.
