Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum is very open to the idea of working with Miguel Cotto's promotional company in the future.

Cotto, the only male fighter from Puerto Rico to win four divisional titles, will retirement on Saturday night in the aftermath of his defense of the WBO junior middleweight title against Sadam Ali at New York's Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Cotto, coming out of the 2000 Olympic games, signed with Arum and made his pro debut in 2001.

He worked with Arum until his contract expired and he became a free agent in December of 2011.

Cotto then worked with Golden Boy Promotions in 2012, before returning to Arum's company - on a fight by fight basis - in 2013.

Cotto and Arum had a very bad falling out when the Puerto Rican star left Top Rank in early 2015 and signed on with Roc Nation.

He parted ways Roc Nation earlier this year and signed a multi-fight deal with Golden Boy.

Cotto has an entire stable of fighters under his his Miguel Cotto Promotions banner. Several of his fighters, including world champion Alberto Machado, are being handled by Golden Boy.

But Arum would be willing to toss their past differences aside to work together to develop fighters.

"Everything will depend on the quality of the boxer he represents," Arum told ESPN Deportes.

"As a boxer, Miguel has been a big man, a boxer who always gave a hundred percent in the ring. I was the promoter of at least 90 percent of his fights and he is one of the most distinguished fighters from Puerto Rico. He's been a fighter who never turned around, or dodged any opponent. As a promoter, he will be as good as the fighters he represents.

"If Miguel Cotto comes to our company to propose something to us with a good boxer, surely we will sit down and negotiate and we can make a deal, but if he comes to propose something just because he's Miguel Cotto and the boxer who he proposes does not have enough quality, we can not guarantee that we will promote that fighter. Everything will depend on the class of the fighter he represents."
