World ranked middleweight, Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez of Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico is making himself at home in Southern California. He and his team have been working in Big Bear at the Summit Boxing Center for the past three weeks and today he worked out at the world famous Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood.  Photo by Gene Blevins/Top Rank.

"It has a very great experience for me and a great way to get ready for my next fight," said Ramirez, who is 25-0 with 20 KO's and will be fighting his second fight for Top Rank on August 17 in Laredo, Texas in a "Solo Boxeo Tecate" card to be telecast by UniMas.

Ramirez and his team led by Jesus and Hector Zapari are happy with the improvement they have seen from their fighter and the support that Bob Arum and Top Rank have given his young charge. Arum was present at the Wild Card today.

"I want you to keep working and improving because I want you to fighting for a world championship next year," Arum told the Ramirez.

Ramirez has had some great sparring in Big Bear with some very notable fighters.

"The thing that we liked is that he has done well with all type of styles that he has faced in sparring, including the WBA champ Gannady Golovkin," said Jesus Zapari, his manager and co-trainer.

If everything goes well in August, Ramirez figures to come back in November in a major Top Rank card.

"Its a great opportunity for me and I am so great full that Mr. Arum took time to come to the gym to see me and gave some very great advise and I will continue to work hard to get to the level he sees for me," said Ramirez.
