Stowbridge’s Nick Blackwell (19-4-1, 8 early) is on the mend following the head injuries he sustained when losing his British middleweight title to Chris Eubank Junior last month.
Blackwell was stopped in round 10 on the advice of the ringside doctor as his left eye had become badly swollen. He collapsed shortly afterwards and was placed into an induced coma so that doctors could attend to a bleed that had developed on his skull.
The 25-year-old was brought out of his coma earlier this month and has taken to Twitter to thank fans, well-wishers and those who contributed money to a fund set-up on his behalf.
‘Just want too say a massive thank you for all the support and messages means the world too me I'm on the mend now so I've been very lucky’ he Tweeted before adding: ‘And a massive thank you too everyone who raised money for me it's been overwhelming! #BoxingFamily’
Blackwell’s injury united the often fragmented boxing community, which came together in unison to wish him well and raise money on his behalf. The fighter’s return to Twitter is a welcome relief and a clear sign that he is well on the road to recovery.
