Australia's IBF featherweight boxing world champion Billy Dib is eyeing a fight with world-ranked compatriot Joel Brunker, but will have a rare non-title bout next month.
Dib (34-1, 21 KOs) will fight Mexican southpaw Juan Antonio Rodriguez (21-3, 19 KOs) in a super featherweight bout at Campsie in Sydney on July 13.
The 26-year-old Sydneysider is taking the fight with a view to moving up to that division next year and, ultimately, wants a crack at WBO super featherweight champion Adrien Broner.
Dib is looking at a possible title defence against 2004 Olympian Brunker early next year.
WBO No.3-ranked featherweight Brunker will fight Mexican Edgar Riovalle (34-13-1, 24 KOs) on the July 13 undercard at Orion Function Centre.
Brunker hopes to land a WBO world title shot later in the year, which could make a bout with Dib a unification match.
Dib, who won a points decision over Brunker in their amateur days, will first have to make a mandatory defence of his title later this year.
