While promoters Yvon Michel and Kathy Duva have been unable to come to an agreement on the most anticipated fight in the light heavyweight class - between champions Adonis Stevenson and Sergey Kovalev - they are getting close to making a pair of elimination bouts in that division involving their clients.
In regards to a fight between Isaac Chilemba and Eleider Alvarez, Kathy Duva told BoxingScene.com - "I've been negotiating with Yvon Michel and I think we are coming to terms with that fight. I'm sure he will have an announcement very soon."
Chilemba is represented by Main Events, while Alvarez is affiliated with GYM.
This bout would be contested for the top spot in the WBC and Duva points out - "the winner will fight Adonis Stevenson - unless of course Adonis Stevenson wants to fight Sergey Kovalev."
As for IBF eliminator between Artur Beterbiev and Sullivan Barrera - for the right to face Kovalev - Michel states to BoxingScene:
"What we're trying to do is to have both Beterbiev and Alvarez on the same show. So we've had some discussions also with another fighter of Kathy for Beterbiev. There might be a problem for him to travel to Canada. But our goal is to have the same fighters on the same show in Canada."
The timeframe for this to happen is some time in November, according to both Michel and Duva.
