Multiple sources in Puerto Rico are reporting that former middleweight king Bernard Hopkins is going to attend the fight between lightweights Michael Perez and Marcos Herrera at the Coliseo Felix Mendez Acevedo in Lares, Puerto Rico. The card is co-promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, where Hopkins has a partnership role, and Miguel Cotto Promotions.

Hopkins has not been to Puerto Rico since he defeated Felix "Tito" Trinidad in September 2001 in a middleweight unification. He went to Trinidad's country to issue an apology to the Puerto Rico fans for some of his pre-fight antics. The most famous was an incident where Hopkins threw the Puerto Rican flag to the floor during a press conference in the country. He was chased from the conference by several angry Puerto Rican fans.
