Concepcion's Spirits Are High Despite Recent Shock Loss

•May 11, 2011

Trying to comeback from a devastating TKO loss to Juan Manuel Lopez last July, his return bout against Juan Carlos Martinez this past weekend was supposed to be a step back in the right direction, a fight to boost his confidence on his way to getting back into the mix at 126 pounds. Sure enough, on paper the fight figured to be heavily in Concepcion's favor given Martinez's 18-12-1 record and the fact that Bernabe had been in with some quality fighters during his seven-year run.

Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas - Light heavyweight Mike Lee remained unbeaten with a four round majority decision over Gilbert Gastelum. Lee (5-0, 3 KOs) landed the cleaner punches, but Gastelum (0-2-1) came on late as the body punches he landed early in the fight slowed Lee down in the fourth. One judge scored the bout even at 38-38, while the other judges had Lee winning the bout by scores of 40-36 and 39-37. Lee was an amateur champion at Notre Dame University and is trained by Ronnie Shields. Photos by Chris Cozzone.
