The World Boxing Council (WBC) has set September 12th in Mexico City as the date and location for the (heavyweight champion) Bermane Stiverne vs. (mandatory challenger) Deontay Wilder purse bid.
Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KOs) captured the vacant title by stopping Chris Arreola earlier this year. Wilder (32-0, 32 KOs), the mandatory challenger, stayed busy last Saturday night in Carson, when he stopped Jason Gavern in four rounds. He became the mandatory by putting away Malik Scott in the first round of a March eliminator.
As reported earlier, the WBC will also hold another purse bid, on the same day, for Danny Garcia's mandatory defense of the WBC 140-pound title against mandatory challenger Viktor Postol. There are doubts as to whether or not Garcia will stick around at junior welterweight. His last fight took place at a catch-weight of 142-pounds.
