Tommy Oosthuizen's draw against Brandon Gonzales may have put plans for more international fights for him in doubt.

The South Africa, who holds the IBO super-middleweight title, drew with Gonzales in the United States last Saturday night.

Golden Gloves promoter Rodney Berman on Monday described Oosthuizen's performance as "a massive setback".

Berman said the bout in Connecticut was an opportunity for Oosthuizen to impress the international boxing fraternity and earn lucrative, televised bouts against top-class fighters.

“He blew it," he said.

Oosthuizen was hoping to secure a title fight against one of the other champions in the division, but most observers felt he was fortunate to maintain his unbeaten record after being out-fought for the opening five rounds.
