Bellew: I'm Going To Smash Nathan Cleverly's Face In

Tony Bellew has told bitter rival Nathan Cleverly he does have a future in boxing - as his accountant.

Welshman Cleverly recently said he would quit the fight game if he loses his WBO light-heavyweight title to Bellew in the challenger's home city of Liverpool on Saturday.

He went on to express confidence that scenario would not unfold, but Bellew views matters differently and says Cleverly will have to fall back on his maths degree to earn a living in future.

Bellew, who opened up a training session to media this afternoon, said: "Come Saturday night, I will look at him, tell him I am going to smash his face in and then go and do it.

"He is going to be retired on Sunday and after the fight I will shake his hand.

"I will ask him if he wants to put his maths to use and become my accountant."

Bellew and Cleverly made headlines in May when an argument at a joint press conference got out of hand and they had to be physically separated.

The pair had been due to fight for the WBO belt in London but the contest was aborted when Bellew, who had been called up as a late replacement for Jurgen Brahmer, failed to make the weight.

Cleverly instead beat Aleksy Kuziemski but the evident bad blood between him and Bellew made a future defence against the Liverpudlian inevitable.

Bellew has since beaten Ovill McKenzie for a second time to maintain an undefeated record which now stretches to 16 professional fights.

Cleverly, after 22 fights, is also unbeaten but Bellew does not rate him highly and is confident of victory in front of a raucous and partisan crowd at the Echo Arena.

Bellew, 27, said: "It will be absolutely nuts - 10,000 Scousers going absolutely crazy, and 10,000 Scousers who are going to see history made - a fighter who is going to win a world title in his 17th fight. I can't wait for it to happen.

"I am in frightening shape. I have done over 100 rounds of sparring with world-class fighters and I am already on the weight.

"I don't worry about Nathan Cleverly. I know what he does and what he is going to try to do.

"I will expose what he is bad at and I will prove what he is good at is not better than what I am good at.

"It is all about getting your tactics right and who is going to lose their mind - and, let me tell you, I am the last person who will lose their mind.

"All I think about is punching his head all over the ring come Saturday.

"He is a good fighter but, to me, he is a domestic-level fighter and I am out to prove he is."

Promoter Frank Warren is hoping the winner of grudge match can go on to fight the winner of the title clash between American veteran Bernard Hopkins and Chad Dawson on the same night.

Securing such a contest could catapult either fighter into the big league but Bellew is not looking beyond the weekend.

He said: "Bernard Hopkins is an all-time great and I don't think either of us are ready for that level yet.

"Once I beat Cleverly I would like a defence or two, but all I am thinking about is Nathan Cleverly.

"I am not thinking about Bernard Hopkins. I just want to concentrate on dethroning the kid from the Valleys."

Funny, this guy is taking over David haye as the biggest trash talker in the UK now that James Degale has toned down his trash talking a bit I hope to find a nice stream on Saturday, Degale is fighting…
