Fans waited for five long years. Last Saturday night it finally happen, as Floyd Mayweather Jr. won a twelve round unanimous decision over Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Mayweather is looking at the month of September to stage the final fight of his pro career. With a record of 48-0 and 26KOs, a win would place Mayweather in position to break the record of heavyweight great Rocky Marciano.
Several possible names have been thrown around for Mayweather's next fight. ESPN expert analyst Teddy Atlas has two names that he doesn't want to see. Atlas has no interest in seeing Mayweather face Pacquiao again, and he has no interest in watching Mayweather fight Amir Khan.
One name Atlas wants to see Mayweather in the ring with is middleweight king Gennady Golovkin, who is willing to drop down to 154-pounds to make the fight.
"Nobody wants to see this fight again," said Atlas to the Staten Island Advance about a possible rematch with Pacquiao. "There's no reason for it, it'll hurt the business. And I don't want to see Khan. He doesn't excite me."
"Why I put 'Sugar Ray' Leonard in the mix of all-time greats was that he stepped up in weight class. He took risks and beat guys like Marvin Hagler. He took risks and he performed. That's why his legacy endures. If Floyd cares about such things, he'll fight Golovkin -- but I don't think he cares. Golovkin is a seek-and-destroy guy. He's aggressive and physical and knows what he's doing. Now that fight I would buy a ticket for."
