Whether boxing fans love him, hate him or are just drawn in by the sideshow factor, Adrien Broner has re-emerged as a bonafide draw. Final ratings data for the April 1 edition of Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on Spike TV saw a positive - and expected - trend upward, placing Broner's 9th round knockout of Ashley Theohpane as the second-most watched cable TV fight of 2016. The main event - which played to a sold-out crowd at the D.C. Armory in Washington D.C. - boasted a final average of 1.141 million viewers, peaking at 1.3 million viewers, Spike TV spokesperson David Schwarz informed BoxingScene.com on Wednesday.
Final numbers are still coming in, but the brass at Spike TV and Premier Boxing Champions are pleased with the early returns for their latest collaboration.
I thought the stoppage was premature because I thought I was in the fight. Me and Broner were going at it. It looked like he was starting to get tired because he started to move around and wasn't able to stay there with me as much.
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Four-division world champion Adrien 'The Problem' Broner didn't have much of a problem beating and stopping Ashley "The Treasure" Theophane at 1:10 in the ninth round in the main event of tonight's Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on Spike event in front of a sold out crowd of 8,172 at the DC Armory in Washington, D.C.
Adrien Broner had predicted an early knockout of Ashley Theophane. The early knockout didn’t come, but Broner still knew early on that Theophane wouldn’t make it to the final bell.
The storyline going into Adrien Broner's fight with Ashley Theophane suddenly changed barely a week before the bout, when it was revealted that there was a warrant out for his arrest in Cincinnati on accusations that he had assaulted and robbed a man after a night of betting on bowling.
By Cliff Rold - When it was first discussed, the idea sounded like a joke. It ended up being a fight, perhaps intended to build a grudge match transparently years in the making. Whether Adrien Broner can be a problem for Floyd Mayweather, or just the latest hoping Mayweather comes back to the ring, remains to be seen.
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Four-division world champion Adrien "The Problem" Broner and 140-pound contender Ashley "The Treasure" Theophane will collide on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike at the DC Armory in Washington, D.C.
It's safe to assume the first quarter of 2016 hasn't been one for Adrien Broner's personal time capsule. The defending super lightweight titlist came in just above the 140 lb. super lightweight limit for his title defense versus England's Ashley Theophane. The visiting challenger came in right at the divisional mark for their headlining bout Friday evening at D.C. Armory in Washington, D.C., with Spike TV to televise (Friday, 9:00 p.m. ET) as part of its Premier Boxing Champions series.
