With their respective victories last week, WBO super middleweight belt-holder, Arthur Abraham (44-4, 29KOs) and mandatory challenger Gilberto Ramirez (33-0, 24KOs) are now scheduled to meet in the first quarter of 2016.
Bob Arum, the head of Top Rank, which promotes Ramirez, explained to BoxingScene.com that he's going to do his best to bring the fight over to the United States, and HBO is on board. The bulk of Abraham's fights have taken place in Germany, where the champion is a big ticket seller and a ratings draw for local TV.
,"We're going to talk to Paco (Valcarcel, the president of the WBO) today to figure out how long we have to negotiate and then go to purse bid if we can't. But we believe that they will be amenable to a deal because we have the money to do the fight in the United States, HBO will air it," Arum told BoxingScene.com
Abraham defeated the tough Martin Murray over twelve rounds on Saturday in Germany to retain his title, while Ramirez won a workmanlike ten round decision against Gevorg Khatchikian on Friday night in Las Vegas.
