| Arum: Manfredo and Barker The Frontrunners For Chavez
By Lem Satterfield BoxingScene.com caught up to Top Rank Promotions CEO, Bob Arum, to get the latest on the newly-crowned WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Having dethroned Sebastian Zbik (30-1, 10 KOs) on June 4, the 25-year-old Chavez (43-0-1, 30 KOs) has a voluntary defense of his belt that he will likely make against 29-year-old Darren Barker (23-0, 14 KOs) or 30-year-old Peter Manfredo (37-6, 20 KOs), the latter of whom has won seven straight bouts, including four by knockout. BoxingScene.com: Does Julio Cesar Chavez have a voluntary defense? BA: Yes. BoxingScene.com: Who will he fight among those including Marco Antonio Rubio, Peter Manfredo and Darren Barker? BA: It's between the two names, Peter Manfredo and Darren Barker. It makes no difference who he fights, it just depends on who we can make the best deal with. We'd be looking to fight on Sept. 24. I'd give Dazzling Darren a shot if I thought that any small-name contender had a chance at getting a fair decision against Jerkoff Crappypants Chavez Jr.
Kid's got a decent chin, at least, so I wouldn't envisage Barker putting enough on him to get him outta there. |

I get tiered of people in these forums calling fighters bums and trash, or scared of another fighter. JR. is a good fighter who gives his all, and makes for entertaining fights time and time again. Is he an unstoppable beast like his dad? No. But who is, Sr. was a once in a lifetime fighter that ... |
