Underscoring the fact that negotiations for a fifth fight between Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao will take time, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum believes that a decision should be reached by April.

In an overseas telephone conversation with BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard, Arum said “we’ve had conversations but these things take time and they are delicate.”

He disclosed that “compensation is what I’m working on” at this time.

Asked whether he had any alternate plans in case the fight doesn’t push through Arum responded - “I don’t make alternate plans. I’m confident both will agree to fight each other.”

Marquez’ promoter Fernando Beltran has admitted that only Pacquiao can satisfy the financial demands of Marquez but that he wants a guaranteed purse of at least $10 million.

BoxingScene.comn quoted Beltran who said - “I believe he [deserves at least $10 million]. We have to make a decision by April on his next fight and then we’ll make the announcement on who he (Marquez) will fight in September.”

Beltran emphasized that “putting Marquez and Pacquiao together is the only combination that producs an attractive financial figure for Juan Manuel.”

Marquez himself said earlier he saw no reason to fight Pacquiao for a fifth time with trainer Ignacio “Nacho” Beristain supporting his fighter’s position.

But Arum reacted by claiming Marquez was “posturing” while negotiating for a higher purse following his crushing 6th round knockout of Pacquiao at the MGM Grand Garden Srena in Las Vegas last December 8.

Why do you NOT want him to take a 5th fight? I am a fan of his but why wouldn't I want him to be able to make another $12-15 million dollars before he retires? Think about all the good he can do with that money for charity in Mexico? The only reason I can think of is that you think he will los...
Who the hell in their right mind at 40 yrs old would NOT take 10 mil. to fight a guy u just KTFO!?
I'am also wondering why? I hope Pac just move on and rematch Bradley now. Forget about Marquez and let him fight his other options for a peanut. You already beat him...
Done deal. You can bet Pacquiao will show up more focused than ever, in the greatest shape of his life, and will pick up where he left off, bloodying JMM's face, beating him, wearing him down, and knocking JMM out. $10m-$12m might not be enough to lure JMM into a 5th fight, because ...

I see there are a few quite uncomfortable and cranky pregnant women posting on this article. Get a life. This will be a great fight, probably the best and most defining of the 5. Can't wait.

And like the last fight it will mean little. Both are CLEARLY past it. But hey, whatever. I'll stream it if it goes down. Pointless as it is.
