This Saturday, August 29, Olympic gold medalist and four-time, three-division world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa will become the latest high-profile boxer to try his luck without gloves, as he makes his bare-knuckle boxing debut against Yesner Talavera in the main event of the BKB 58 event at the James L. Knight Center in Miami.
Gamboa’s fight has been elevated to main event status now that WBO No. 12-rated boxer and reigning BKB heavyweight world champion Gustavo Trujillo’s opponent fell out due to visa issues.
Trujillo will now face former BKB Cruiserweight World Champion Jarome Hatch in the now non-title co-main event.
Cuba’s “El Ciclón de Guantánamo,” Gamboa won gold at the 2004 Olympic Games and, as a professional, went on to the unified WBA and IBF featherweight world champion.
Gamboa also captured WBA interim titles at super featherweight and lightweight.
Having faced several notable opponents, including pound-for-pound great Terence Crawford, as well as world champions Devin Haney, Gervonta Davis and Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz, Gamboa’s traditional boxing record currently sits at 30-5 (18 KOs).
"I've fought at the highest level my whole career,” said Gamboa, “and now I get to bring that experience into the Trigon for my BKB debut, headlining in Miami. This is a new challenge and I'm ready to show the Miami fans exactly why I've been a champion my whole life."
Also scheduled that night, Robert Duran Jr., son of boxing legend Roberto Duran, takes on Ryan Spivey.
