Former WBC cruiserweight champion Krzysztof Wlodarczyk (49-3-1, 35 KOs), who recently lost his title to challenger Grigory Drozd (39-1, 27 KOs) with a one-sided unanimous decision, has issued an explanation for his sub-par performance last Saturday night to the Przegląd Sportowy.
“When your mind isn’t right and straight then your entire setup is upset”, said Wlodarczyk. “I had thought that everything had been almost right, that it had been working just fine. But it ain’t been working just fine. The next week is the first chapter of a new life for me, one that I’m trying to bring to certain order."
"I need to do something to restore my calm nature. I don’t want to get into details as it’s very complicated. But I need to concentrate on my home and on building a future for myself. I’m not planning to change my coach, as Fiodor Lapin isn’t guilty of anything. I need to change my approach. There are also some extra factors [to be dealt with].
Meanwhile, according to the “World of Boxing” (a promotional company led by Andrey Ryabinskiy) press officers - Wlodarczyk had a rematch clause in effect for the Drozd fight.
“The agreement for the Wlodarczyk vs. Drozd contest includes a rematch clause for the Polish fighter. In the event of a loss to Drozd, he has a right for a rematch with Grigory in eight months from the date of the original fight”.
