Olympic Bronze medallist Tony Jeffries is hoping to get back in the ring next month after a disappointing eleven months has seen the Sunderland fighter fight just four minutes of ring action. The 26 year-old is unbeaten in nine contests since turning pro and is looking to start stepping up in class with a view to challenging for domestic titles.
The light-heavyweight prospect was shocked by journeyman Michael Banbula in July 2010 after the Surrey-based Pole held him to an unexpected draw and now Jeffries is turning to his old amateur team-mate and world champion Amir Khan, to help him keep up his winning run since.
“The reason I texted Amir was to see if there’s any chance of getting on the undercard of that show, which is promoted by Golden Boy at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas on July 23,” Jeffries told thesundaysun.co.uk.
“I really need a fight because I’ve only fought a round and a half since last July.
“Hopefully my dad, who’s also my manager, can sort something out with Golden Boy to get me a fight in the place I’d like to box most after the Stadium of Light,” he added.
