The World Boxing Council has finally approved the return of former flyweight champion Tomas "Gusano" Rojas (37-13-1, 25KOs), who faces Julio Zarate (28-5-2, 17KOs) this Saturday night in Tijuana, Mexico.
Earlier this year, the sanctioning body issued a worldwide suspension on Rojas, because the boxer claimed that he accepted money to take a dive in his six-round TKO loss to Jorge Arce in September 2007 in Las Vegas.
The World Boxing Council ordered Rojas to appear at their headquarters to explain his comments on the Arce fight - since both fighters were competing that night for a WBC regional title. After Rojas refused to appear, the WBC issued the worldwide ban.
However, Rojas finally met with the sanctioning body and explained his comments regarding the Arce fight. After a taking an internal votes, the WBC found no evidence that Rojas took a dive and lifted his ban.
