A single purchase this weekend can save boxing fans up to $30 on HBO’s next two pay-per-view events.
This weekend’s headliner between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and lineal middleweight king Sergio Martinez tops a card at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas. The live feed airs on HBO PPV, at a suggested retail price of $49.95.
A rebate being offered by leading sponsor Tecate will save fans up to $30. Eligibility for the rebate includes proof of purchase for the event and the November 12 card (though its headliner to be announced) and either two-12 packs or four (4) six-packs of Tecate beer.
Full details of the rebate can be found here: http://www.tecateboxing.com/rebate/rebate/pdfs/Tecate%20Chavez-Martinez%20NATIONAL%20Coupon.pdf
Tecate has proven itself to be among the sport’s biggest supporters, with its PPV rebate program dating as far back as 2007. It has been on board for most of Manny Pacquiao’s pay-per-view appearances for the past several years, including his controversial points loss to Tim Bradley this past June.
Traditionally, the program calls for the purchase of a 12-pack or larger of Tecate beer prior to the event and for the receipt to be mailed in with the rebate form and cable or satellite bill showing proof of pay-per-view purchase.
Past deals have offered rebates as much as $25, which exceeds the average cost of even a case of Tecate. Their most recent rebate offer was their most customer-friendly yet, with consumers able to recover as much as $40 from the Bradley-Pacquiao pay-per-view-event.
This weekend’s show is completely sold-out, with closed circuit tickets also moving at a rapid pace. The 19,186 tickets sold is a record for the Thomas and Mack Center, though modest ticket prices meant a lower gate total than has been the case for past higher priced events.
“Because this is a fight fans’s fight, we have priced them accordingly,” noted Arum back when the press tour began earlier this summer. “Thomas and Mack is a big place, we’re confident that we’re going to fill it up.”
The weigh-in will be held Friday evening along the strip and will air live on HBO, ESPN and several other online outlets. The event has been given similar treatment as any recent card headlined by Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, which speaks of the magnitude of this particular show.
Chavez (46-0-1, 32KO) makes the fourth defense of the alphabet title he acquired last June, though the very same belt that Martinez was forced to vacate.
Martinez (49-2-2, 28KO) has taken the slight very personal. The Argentine star has every intention of violently snatching back the title, while making the fifth defense of the lineal middleweight crown he acquired with a 12-round points win over Kelly Pavlik in April ’10.
