Jose Sulaiman, the president of the World Boxing Council (WBC), believes Danny Garcia (26-0, 16KOs) vs. Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32KOs) could steal the show on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Matthysse, the interim title holder, is the mandatory challenger to Garcia's full title. The Showtime PPV is headlined by the anticpated battle between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, who collide for the WBA and WBC junior middleweight titles.
"This fight could steal the show. Garcia can not stay away from Lucas, who always comes forward throwing punches and Danny does not go backwards, boxes well and has speed in his hands. The styles are made for a big fight. It will be a dramatic fight because everyone expects a knockout when Matthysse fights, and he stopped his last six in this fashion. Danny Garcia has a great style and he's been an undefeated champion since beating Erik Morales," Sulaiman said.
"The fight is one of the best of the year. There was pressure [to get it done] from the World Boxing Council, because we can not continue to have interim champions.....fortunately it was signed without problems. We do not have many champions in the same division, there has to be a single champion. The two of them have signed to fight and it's going to be a sensational fight. It will be a great night for the World Boxing Council, I have no doubt."
