Scott Cardle has just one defence of his British title before it’s his for keeps.
The Lytham lightweight is set to make that defence in a couple of months’ time, live on Sky Sports.
Cardle (21-0-1, 7 KOs) has already had three fights for the crown since winning it in a vacant capacity in May 2015.
But because one of the fights for the belt was a draw, British Boxing Board of Control rules state that you must win three times to hold the title outright.
And having most recently knocked out Kevin Hooper in October last year to record his second winning defence of the Lonsdale belt, Cardle will be back in the ring again at the same venue.
The win over Hooper came at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland, and that is where Cardle will face an opponent to be named in a final defence of the prestigious bauble.
It’ll take place on the undercard of Ricky Burns’ defence of the WBA super-lightweight world title against Namibia’s IBF and IBO king Julius Indongo on April 15.
Former Olympic gold medallist Luke Campbell has been mooted as an opponent for Cardle, but Boxing Scene understands that that will be likely for after the man with Scottish heritage has wrapped up the British strap.
Further details regarding Cardle’s opponent for his next –– and hopefully final –– British lightweight title defence will be revealed in due course.
Elsewhere on the card, Cardle’s gym-mate Callum Johnson, who is a Commonwealth Games gold medal winner from the 2010 Games in Delhi, is expected to defend his Commonwealth light-heavyweight title while there is action slated for Joe Ham and Charlie Flynn, who is expected to vie for his first professional title, and Felix Cash has also been handed a spot on the show.
