Two major unifications, involving two British stars, are potentially taking place within a three week span in July. The heavyweight unification between WBO/IBO/IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko, and WBA champion David Haye, is possibly going to land on July 2. A date of June 25 is also being considered for Klitschko-Haye. The junior welterweight unification, between WBA champion Amir Khan, and WBC/WBO king Timothy Bradley, is tentative for July 23.
There have been questions regarding the possibility of Klitschko-Haye being finalized for the date of July 2. Sky Sports, the pay-per-view carrier in the UK, has often avoided the possibility of staging two major pay-per-views in the same month. The biggest question was whether or not Khan-Bradley was going to be pushed to a new date.
According to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, Klitschko-Haye being finalized should not affect the tentative date for Khan-Bradley.
"Well, you know, those fights are like three weeks apart, so there's three weeks in between, so it should be okay," said Schaefer to BoxingScene.com. "The Khans are working on that. I think that they're looking into that and that it shouldn't be a problem."
