The June 8 card at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas — featuring a 115-pound title bout between Juan Carlos Sanchez and Roberto Domingo Sosa in the main event — sold 577 tickets for a total gate of $20,600, according to figures provided by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
The eight-fight card, promoted by Top Rank and televised on UniMas, had 339 tickets given away for free. Another 496 tickets went unsold.
The gate figure is an average of $35.70 per ticket sold. Tickets were $50 for VIP seats at ringside and $25 for general admission.
Ticket sales are not necessarily the only source of revenue; networks pay license fees, and casinos often pay site fees to attract high rollers.
Sanchez, who was slightly overweight, won a 12-round decision over Sosa, leaving the International Boxing Federation belt vacant. He is now 16-1-1 with 8 knockouts. Sosa suffered his first pro defeat and is now 24-1 with 14 knockouts.
