Freed from the purgatory of SMS Promotions, lightweight hopeful Ryan 'Blue Chip' Martin is ready to go full steam ahead with his career. And he has found his way onto his next card.
His manager, Timothy Van Newhouse tells BoxingScene.com,"July 16th in Alabama, it's just another step closer basically to much bigger outings in the future for him." This show features the WBC heavyweight title fight between Deontay Wilder and Chris Arreola from the Legacy Arena in Birmingham.
Back on April 23rd Martin made his return to the ring after an eleven month layoff by stopping Rosbel Montoya in five rounds at the Forum in Los Angeles, California on a K2 Promotions card that was headlined by Gennady Golovkin, who blew out Dominic Wade in two.
As for his promotional future, Van Newhouse says,"Negotiations have been on-going between myself and Tom Loeffler (managing director of K2 Promotions). Basically, we've recently come to a mutual agreement on a term sheet and it's just a matter of timing on Tom's end to finalize the contract. He's been tied down mainly with 'GGG's next bout. So we'll make an announcement soon as this progresses further."
The plan is to get Martin (14-0, 9 KO's) active again in 2016.
"Tentatively we're projected for two more eight-round bouts. One in the fall and one at the end of the year on HBO International,"said Van Newhouse, who says the native of Chattanooga, Tennessee pushed for his inclusion on the Wilder-Arreola undercard.
"He was very adamant about being added to the undercard because it's very close to home for him and given that we're very friendly with Lou DiBella. Collectively as a team we were able to make this happen for him,"stated the manager.
