Former world champion Hugo "Cuatito" Ruiz has decided to speak up and raise his hand to straighten out the super bantamweight world champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), undefeated Leo "Terremoto" Santa Cruz , to stop fighting sparring partners -referring to his two most recent rivals, Manuel Román and Jesus "Estrellita" Ruiz.
"Obviously with those kind of opponents people know who will win and I'm not saying that Santa Cruz is bad fighter, quite the opposite, but he must face top fighters and I'm number 2 under the WBC," Ruiz (35-2, 31 KOs) said.
"Cuatito" said he was ready to become the number one, because his compatriot Andres Gutiérrez is heading up to featherweight and will leave the top position vacant, which makes him the direct challenger to the belt of Santa Cruz (29- 0-1, 17 KOs).
"Gutierrez is number one and we were going to fight in an eliminator but he could not make super bantamweight anymore and moved up. I'm going to be automatically number 1". Therefore, I say to Santa Cruz that as a Mexican which he is, that he should face a true Mexican from land of champions, Los Mochis, Sinaloa."
