According to Juan Carlos Torres, a senior executive at Zanfer Promotions, WBC flyweight champion Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez (40-0, 34KOs) rejected the opportunity to face tough former champion Hernan "Tyson" Marquez, and instead selected Rocky Fuentes for his upcoming defense on November 22 in Japan.
Torres claims the deal was offered to Gonzalez's legal adviser, Carlos Blandon, who allegedly turned the fight down. Marquez (37-5, 26KOs) will now return on December 6th in Hermosillo against an opponent to be determined.
"We offered Tyson Marquez, because we know the quality of our fighter," said Torres. "But his handlers did not want Tyson."
Gonzalez's adviser denies any rejection of Marquez. He says they are even to open to doing the fight in 2015.
"We have not rejected any offer. We are interested in Marquez," said Blandon. "Roman and (Marquez) have even been in contact via Twitter, so we have not rejected any offer and they have not offered one to us."
