Nicaraguan Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez has said goodbye to the status of interim-champion. On Friday, Argentinian Juan Carlos Reveco relinquished the junior flyweight crown of the World Boxing Association (WBA) to jump to the next available division, flyweight. This decision by Reveco makes Gonzalez the regular world champion and spoils the plan for an interesting fight between the two of them.
"Only Reveco knows why he didn't want to fight me. Each fighter knows their own problems, and the difficulties that they face, so I'll just concentrate on my own career," Gonzalez said. "I wanted to fight with Reveco to be crowned world champion in an official manner. It is unfortunate that the fight could not take place."
Last November, the executive committee at the WBA's annual convention in Managua, ordered Reveco to face Gonzalez before the end of February. But Reveco decided to leave his former manager Oswaldo Rivero, entered into legal problems and decided to change promoters.
"The problem is that some fighters do not want to face me. They know what I can do and they refrain from fighting me. Maybe that is what happened to Reveco," reiterated Gonzalez.
