Guillermo Rigondeaux's win over Nonito Donaire included VADA testing at the request of Donaire. Now, Rigondeaux is the one championing comprehensive drug testing.
Rigondeaux's manager Irishman Gary Hyde advised BoxingScene.com on Thursday that both Rigondeaux and Agbeko agreed to VADA testing for their Dec. 7 bout on HBO, but only Rigondeaux (12-0, 8 KOs) has turned over the necessary paperwork for screening. Hyde wants Agbeko (29-4, 22 KOs) to sign the VADA screening agreement and return it immediately in order to move forward with the bout.
"Rigondeaux has already submitted his VADA screening paperwork and we are getting very annoyed and concerned that Agbeko has not returned his paperwork," Hyde said. "Before we agreed to take this fight, Rigondeaux made it clear that he wanted Agbeko to undergo VADA screening so much so that it was a deal breaker. Now with just over three weeks to the fight, Agbeko still hasn't returned his paperwork.
"While we are not pointing fingers," Hyde added, "we are very concerned that Agbeko is not respecting our wishes and honoring the bout contract."
The bout with Agbeko will be Rigondeaux's first since his dominant junior featherweight championship win over Donaire in April. The bout is set to headline an HBO card from Atlantic City, N.J. Rigondeaux will fight on that date, but will Agbeko?
"If Agbeko doesn't return his VADA paperwork," Hyde said, "we will look at alternative options."
