Gavin Rees will have the chance to become a two-weight world champion when he faces American star Adrien Broner next month.
The Welshman (37-1-1, 18 KOs), who is unbeaten in his 11 fights since the only loss of his career against Andriy Kotelnik in 2008, heads Stateside to challenge for Broner's WBC lightweight title at Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, on February 16.
Rees relinquished his European and British lightweight belts to take on this test and will be the underdog to beat one of America's hottest prospects.
But the 32-year-old former light-welterweight world champion said: "I didn't think twice about taking this fight.
"Broner is a fantastic boxer and a huge talent, but I am confident I can upset the odds on February 16 and become a two-division world champion.
"I've got the edge when it comes to experience and under my trainer Gary Lockett, I have a new lease of life. I believe that besides (Antonio) DeMarco, I am the toughest opponent he's faced and I think I will cause him plenty of trouble, especially if he underestimates what I can do.
"This is a massive opportunity for me and it would be a dream come true to do it in the United States. I am going to be putting it all on the line to make my dream a reality."
Broner (25-0, 21 KOs) captured the belt with an eighth-round stoppage of DeMarco in November and is planning on extending his five-fight knockout streak against Rees.
