BoxingScene.com recently caught up with top super middleweight contender Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez (33-0) who is preparing for his April 9th clash against WBO champion Arthur Abraham (44-4). The title bout serves as the chief support to the Manny Pacquiao-Tim Bradley pay-per-view trilogy bout that takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Abraham is known for his power and tough defensive shell. Ramirez believes that the key to beating Abraham is to outwork him.
"We are working very hard to go 12 full rounds very hard. We want to throw a lot of punches for all 12 rounds. We know it won't be easy and we are training very hard to win each round convincingly so that we leave no doubt," Ramirez stated.
The 24-year-old Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico native believes that he has the game plan to beat the Germany based Armenian's defense.
"He is a great fighter and a great champion. To beat a champion will be tough and I am very motivated to beat him. He has a great defense and we look forward to the challenge of finding the cracks in his defense. We are very motivated to beat him and to become world champion," said a confident Ramirez.
Mexico has a rich history in the sport of boxing and Ramirez is working hard to add his name to the country's long list of champions. One of the few divisions that the country has never had a champion is the super middleweight division and Ramirez is confident he will be the first.
"The biggest motivation for me and my team is to make history and be on the map. To be the first Mexican to win a title at 168 pounds is the opportunity we have wanted for a long time and we will not squander it," Ramirez told BoxingScene.com.
