On Thursday night Jason Quigley (5-0 5 KOs) will return to the ring at the Fantasy Springs Resort and Casino in Indio, Calif. against an opponent to be determined. The fight will serve as the co-feature bout underneath the Mercito Gesta-Carlos Molina main event. The fights will air on Fox Sports1.
The highly decorated former Irish amateur champion has had a busy 2015 schedule, having fought twice already. Quigley said that he has enjoyed the transition from amateur to pro and said that even though he has stopped all of his opponents in his brief career, he still has a lot of room for improvement.
"I absolutely love the transition. It is something I have wanted since I was at a young age. I have been working hard and just need to keep doing what I am doing and improving."
"I think I need to work the body a little more. That is a place you don't really venture in the amateurs since the punches don't count. I just think I need to work on the body and fighting in close and never forgetting where I came from and what I am good at," Quigley stated.
The 23-year-old said that he is focused 100% on the task at hand and doesn't want to look to far in the future. While he plans on becoming a world champion sooner rather than later, he feels it is more important to hone his craft and keep progressing.
"To be honest it is dangerous to look that far ahead. I think right now for me it is very important to take it one fight at a time. Making the transition from living in Ireland to living in America and going to the professional ranks is what I am concentrating on," said Quigley.
On May 23rd James DeGale and Andre Dirrell will battle it out for the vacant IBF super middleweight title. Quigley, who has campaigned between the middleweight and super middleweight divisions, is very interested in the fight and finished our conversation with a breakdown of the fight.
"That is a massive fight. I'm surprised that there isn't more talk about that fight. That is a super fight in that division. I honestly don't know much about Dirrell other than he is very talented and a great, great fighter. Obviously coming from Europe I know a lot more about James DeGale. He is a slick fighter and a confident fighter. He lost to George Groves who gave (Carl) Froch a great fight. I think that will be a good fight and I can't wait to see it," Quigley told BoxingScene.com.
