Brooklyn, New York- Although Shawn Porter and his father/trainer Ken are patiently waiting for a fight with Keith Thurman to come to fruition, the deadline before they move on to something else is the end of the year.
While that plan was kept close to the vest, one thing is for sure there won’t be a rematch with Kell Brook anytime soon.
“There is no plan B right now,” Ken Porter told BoxingScene.com “You notice Kell Brook is fighting all these fighters involved with Al Haymon but he hasn’t said Shawn Porter’s name. We don’t go to England and don’t harass someone who don’t want to fight us. We live down the street from Floyd Mayweather and we don’t go knocking on his door because ain’t no sense in chasing a fight with no one that wants to fight us.”
The Porters came to the Barclays Center in August to scout a possible opponent in Danny Garcia. Garcia is scheduled to face Robert Guerrero in a WBC Welterweight World Title tournament, a tournament Shawn Porter was not invited to. Ken Porter doesn’t seemed to concerned with politics, just wants his son to land a big fight.
“Errol Spence all of a sudden is in line for a title eliminator and they’re not going to mention us with him,” explained Ken Porter. “How is Errol Spence in a title eliminator days before the fight. We can take this WBA title from Keith Thurman or fight for the vacant title if Keith Thurman doesn’t want it. They announced WBC Tournament and they didn’t invite anyone to a tournament to determine the belt that Floyd held, what kind of stuff is that?”
Shawn Porter has been idle since June when he defeated Adrien Broner. Broner himself had choice words to say about the fight and feels a rematch between the two will be different. But that’s not a fight Shawn Porter is interested at the moment.
“Just like the fight he knows better,” Shawn Porter said. “He knows what happened in that fight was meant to happen. There was nothing he could do from round 1 through 12. I looked at my dad and said if someday if that fight makes sense we’ll think about it. We’re not re-matching him. We’re on another level now, that’s his fault. He should have been more prepared.”
