Yoyogi #2 Gymnasium, Tokyo, Japan - WBC super featherweight champion Takahiro Aoh (22-2-1, 10KOs) retained his title with a tougher than expected win over previously undefeated Devis Boschiero (29-1-1, 14KOs). Aoh secured a twelve round split decision victory, with two judges scoring 115-113 in his favor, while the third judge had it 116-113 for the challenger.
After the fight was over, Boschiero and his team screamed robbery:
"Devis Boschiero is the champion without belt," said his manager Christian Cherchi after the spilt decision was announced. "Everybody can watch the fight and judge for themselves. Boschiero won by at least by 3 points. OPI 2000, the promoter of Boschiero, will fill a protest to the WBC for an immediate rematch. Japanese people are proud people and I think Takahiro Aoh and the promoter Mr. Honda will give Boschiero a deserved rematch."
