European light welterweight champion Paul McCloskey (22-0, 12KOs) is ready to do a real number on Amir Khan (24-1, 17KOs). McCloskey challenges Khan for the WBA junior welterweight title on April 16 in Manchester. McCloskey has been training very hard for the biggest fight of his unbeaten career.
“I’ve been training really hard this last four - four and a half weeks. I am in very good shape at the minute. I’m working on my conditioning and I’ve improved dramatically this last four weeks and I’m feeling very strong,” McCloskey told The Journal.
There are members of McCloskey's team who wonder if Khan is actually taking the fight seriously. There are reports that Khan has already reached an agreement to face WBC/WBO champion Timothy Bradley in July.
"He’s a great boxer - make no mistake about it- but I know I can do a good job on him. Trust me. This hasn’t come to me by luck. I’ve got myself in a position where I am world ranked. I am European champion and part of me hopes he is taking me lightly because I’ll wipe the floor with him then,” McCloskey said.
