Two-time world champion Orlando “Siri” Salido who is training in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico for his June 4 showdown with Francisco “Bandido” Vargas, had this to say about the positive doping exam that VADA reported.
“It’s Francisco Vargas' problem to deal with and if there was some kind on negligence by his team then is on him. I am not going to be distracted by this issue. I will continue to prepare myself as best that I can for this fight and will be ready on June 4 to home the WBC Super Featherweight belt,” said Salido from his training camp.
“There is commission and a boxing organization to address this type of things and I will leave it to them to decided what to do with this result. I know they will do right thing and if they determined that the fight can go on, I will be more then ready to get in the ring and give the fans a fight they will remember for a long time,” added Salido.
“I had an issue 10 year ago and I know that is why Vargas' team insisted on the VADA testing for this fight and by the way I welcomed it. I have proven to be a clean boxer over the last 10 year and I have never received the benefit of the doubt, like Vargas is getting now, but that’s okay, as long we fight on June 4 I will find my justice in the ring”
Sean Gibbons Manager and Advisor of Salido,
“I want to thank California Commissioner Andy Foster for his quick resolution to this issue, and for doing all he can in order to save the Salido vs Vargas fight. Boxing needs more commissioners like Andy Foster who in 24 hours of the news of the positive steroid test had all the parties on a conference call and came up with a proper plan to save the event.”
“What I am not happy about is we had the same arguments 10 years ago and no one would believe us. But just because Vargas people say well we have to be clean because we ask for the VADA testing on the fight. That is complete nonsense. And they have everyone believing that Varga should be considered innocent because of this.”
“Orlando has been training in Mexico for the past two months eating all the meat he wants and has had no problem with his results. But at the end of the day we are happy the positive test came up now so we can make sure Vargas is clean from here on out.”
