Former champion Sergio Mora is siding with the skills of Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) to overcome the strength and youth of WBC 154-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs).
A few weeks ago, Mora was ringside at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, and watched Mayweather's fighter, Mickey Bey, dominate John Molina for nearly nine rounds - but then Molina caught him with a big shot in the tenth and final round and stopped him.
Most ringside observers believe Bey was trying to close the show by knocking Molina out, and also trying to impress Mayweather, who was ringside.
Mora does not expect Mayweather to make the same kind of mistake.
"Skills pay the bills - if Mayweather can take it all the way to the end and close the show [by boxing]. Everybody says 'you could have knocked him out.' 'Yeah, I could have knocked him out and I take the risk of getting knocked out like we saw [with Mickey Bey and John Molina].' It's big fight," Mora told BoxingScene.com.
"[Bey and Molina] was a beautiful example of closing the show to the end. Bey was winning seven rounds to three or whatever it was. He was convincingly winning, but because he wanted to close the show [with a knockout], and saluting Floyd by being exciting - guess what - he gets knocked out and goes to the back of the line. Canelo is a helluva a fighter and a hard puncher, but Floyd is not stupid. He won't be saluting anybody. He will win a unanimous decision."
