Citing issues with making the weight, Moises Fuentes (16-1, 8KOs) has vacated the WBO's 105-pound title and plans to move up in weight to challenge WBO junior flyweight champion Donnie Nietes (30-1, 16KOs). The World Boxing Organization has now made Fuentes the mandatory challenger to Nietes' championship. The WBO has given their respective promoters 30 days to reach an agreement before a purse bid is ordered.
Nietes is one of the most underrated fighters in the lower weight divisions. Fuentes is coming off a high profile fifth round knockout of Puerto Rican superstar Ivan Calderon. In the bout with Calderon, Fuentes had issues with making the weight and had to step on the scale four different times in order to do so.
