Mérida, Mexico - Miguel Berchelt took a little longer than he is accustomed to, but a wicked left hook to the head of Cristobal Cruz would put him down and eventually lead to a TKO victory at 2:19 of the fifth. In his last five fights, Berchelt has not gone past the second round so Cruz, a highly tested veteran, gave him some good work. Berchelt's record goes up to 20 wins, no defeats and 17 knockouts. Former champion Cruz suffers his 15th defeat, with 40 wins to his credit and 24 of them before the deadline with three draws.
In the co-feature, David "Tornado" Sanchez had the privilege of being the first boxer to knock out Juan Kantún at 2:38 of the seventh. With the result, Sanchez improved to 22 wins, 17 of them on the fast track, with two draws and two defeats - while Kantún suffered his fifth defeat in 29 fights, with 21 wins and three draws.
