Former European light-welterweight champion Paul McCloskey (22-1) plans on frustrating Breidis Prescott (24-2, 19 KO’s) when the two fighters meet at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast on September 10th in a WBA eliminator.
McCloskey, who turned 32 earlier this month, faces the only man to beat his previous opponent Amir Khan in Prescott, 28, who blasted the former Olympic silver medallist out in under a minute two years ago and no adopts the nickname the 'Khanqueror."
‘Dudey’ is aiming to prove he belongs in world-class after his controversial sixth round stoppage defeat to unified champion Khan, 24, last April and sees a dominating win over the Colombian puncher as the ideal start before challenging for a title.
“Talk is cheap, but I will do my talking in the ring in September,” McCloskey explained to WBN. “I'm going to be in the best shape possible and I plan on mesmerising him.
“I will frustrate him and don't see him having anything left by the middle rounds. He is too crude and I am going to be too slick.
“I am going to make a statement," he went on. I think Prescott needs me more than I need him. He is chasing Khan, but he hasn't done anything since that knockout.
“I don't think Prescott has the same power at 140lb but it won't matter because he will not get near me,” added the Irishman.
