MGM Grand, Las Vegas - BoxingScene.com was one of the few outlets allowed backstage at the MGM Grand. Prior to the official weigh-in, when both camps arrived to check-in with the Nevada State Athletic Commission - there were near fireworks.
For the second time in the last three days, trainers Ruben Guerrero and Floyd Mayweather Sr. nearly came to blows after exchanging words. On Friday afternoon their paths crossed once again, words were quickly exchanged and the two trainers were held back by their respective teams and security.
The first time around, the two trainers went after each other at Wednesday's final press conference, after weeks of exchanging insults in the press. They were separated by security.
Their sons, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero, will battle it out on Saturday night for the WBC welterweight championship on Showtime Pay-Per-View.
Luis DeCubas Jr., the co-manager of Guerrero, spoke to BoxingScene about Friday's incident between the two trainers.
"Ruben was just clowning him, playing with his head, mind games. [Floyd Sr.] had his opportunity to hit [Ruben] on stage [at Wednesday's presser] but he didn't. Look, at the end of the day now it's about the fighters. If they want to throw blows, we can set it up for the street [after the fight], but last thing we need is for one of these [boxers] to get hurt before this fight [from an all-out brawl between their trainers]," DeCubas told BoxingScene.com.
