Following last Saturday's twelve round loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Manny Pacquiao claimed that a "leak" provided information regarding his right shoulder injury to Mayweather.
About 90 minutes before the fight, Pacquiao and his team revealed the injury to the Nevada State Athletic Commission - when his team requested for Pacquiao to get an injection of an anti-inflammatory. The request was denied because the commission had no prior knowledge of the injury.
The shoulder was further injured during the fight, an injury which Pacquiao says attributed to his lackluster punch output. Pacquiao will now have to get surgery to correct the injury and the rehabilitation process will keep him out of the ring for the remainder of the year.
Mayweather, and his company CEO Leonard Ellerbe, have not been shy about someone providing their side with knowledge of Pacquiao's training camp.
"Everything that Manny Pacquiao did in his camp, I knew. I knew when he boxed. I knew when he didn't box. I knew how many rounds he boxed. I knew how he was looking. I knew how many rounds he did on the heavy bag. I knew when his legs were cramping. I knoew everything. I knew about the MMA guy he was boxing. I knew about the guy he sent home," Mayweather told Fighthype.com. "Every guy that I face, I want to know everything about them."
Mayweather and Ellerbe have never claimed knowledge of the injury, but Floyd does question the timing of Pacquiao's disclosure.
"What a coincidence, just before we go to the ring, or just after the fight, that's when your arm is hurt. Why didn't you say that a couple of days before. [Why didn't you say] 'I'm still going to fight this fight if my arm is sore, but it would feel a little better if I got this injection - but I'm still going to fight,'" Mayweather said.
