LAS VEGAS --- Floyd Mayweather brought 46 breast cancer survivors to be his guests at the fight and he made a donation of $15,000 to Susan G Komen for the Cure at Wednesday's final pre-fight news conference for his fight against Marcos Maidana on Saturday night at the MGM Grand on Showtime PPV.
"So many females in my family are older women and had breast cancer," Mayweather said. "My auntie was the first person to die of breast cancer. This is No. 46 for me. This is my 46th fight, so I decided to bring 46 women with breast cancer to my fight and buy them all new wigs. That was my dad's sister, Dorothy."
Mayweather appeared to get very emotional during the news conference, but it wasn't all because of the breast cancer guests.
"That's not it," Mayweather said. "I'm passionate. I didn't get here all by myself. I have a strong team behind me. I didn't get to acknowledge everybody. My lawyer has been there for me through my roughest times. You know, Shane Emerick has been there through my roughest times. My lawyer is like one of my best friends and he was there for me. These are the things I don't talk about or I don't always acknowledge. There's a lot of people behind me behind the scenes. No different from Doralie Medina. She has to massage me and she has to be on call 24 hours a day. When you at the elite level at this level, you have to have the best. I have the best lawyer. I have the best massage therapist. You know, I have the best team. That's why when I go out there and perform I'm getting the best results."
