On August 29th former champion Ricardo "El Matador" Mayorga (31-8-1) will have an opportunity to extract revenge over rival Shane Mosley (47-9-1). Mayorga was stopped by Mosley with 1 second left in their September, 2008 fight at the Home Depot Center, in Carson, Calif. The fight will be available on pay-per-view with an announcement for the undercard coming shortly.
The fight was very close, and Mayorga said that one of the officials told him afterwards that if he would have got through the 12th round without being knocked down, he would have walked out of the ring the winner.
"One of the officials showed me the scorecards after the first fight. If it wasn't for the knockdown I would have been ahead on the points. If it wasn't for that and the last second knockdown I would have won the fight," said Mayorga.
This time around Mayorga said the fight won't make it to the late rounds. He said that he is rejuvenated and that Mosley won't make it to the 4th round.
"I am very excited about fighting Mosley again. I thank God for the opportunity. I am very sure I can knock him out in three rounds. I think he is more worn out now and I am fresher after getting a rest. He has taken more damage than me and I am more mature 7, 8 years later. Three rounds and nine minutes is all I need to beat him," Mayorga told BoxingScene.com.
